IMPROVING YOUR GAME WITH THE OPTISHOT DRIVING RANGE
GET THE EDGE OVER  YOUR PLAYING PARTNERS

Like most golfers, you have very limited time to practice. With work and family, your lucky just to get in 1-2 rounds a week. The hassle and aggrevation of going to the drving range is not too appealing. Besides, what do you really accomplish at the driving range? You buy a large bucket, swing and stretch a few times, then start hitting balls.  Like most of us, you start with your PW, hit a few, move up to the 8 iron, hit a few more, then continue all the way to your driver until the bucket is empty.

But what did you real accomplish at the range?
Besides hitting 75 balls.

The driving range has become a place where the average golf just hits balls. some hit to targets, but most just hit until the bucket is empty.  The drving range doesn't give you feedback, doesn't tell you what your doing wrong or tell you how far you hit your ball. It just an area that collects all the balls you just hit.  Like most golfers, I hate hitting balls on the range. I would rather spend my limited time on the course.  Besides, range balls are inaccurate and most of the turf on driving ranges are filled with divots and bare spots.

NOW IS THE TIME TO START PRACTICING SMART AND UNLOCK YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL.

1) PITCH SHOT DRILL.

One thing that seperates us from the Pros ( besides skill and luck) is distance control around the greens.  We rarely practice 20,30, 40 yd, etc , pitch shots. Most ranges are not set up for this. Head to the OPTISHOT RANGE and pick a spot 20 yds from one of the 6 targets. Hit 10 shots, move back in 10 yd increments to 70 yds. Then mix it up, go to 50 yds, down to 30 yds, then up to 70 yds. Really work on getting that "feel" on all  of these distances. Also pay attention to where the ball is landing in relationship to the pin. Are you alway left and short or right and long. If you are always landing your ball on one side or the other. Check your alignment. Do this for a week and watch your scores drop on the course!! GOOD LUCK. Video coming soon!

2) SWING SPEED DRILL

The most suprising thing I have personally learned on the Optishot is the minimal amount of effort it takes to hit a ball. Most pros do not swing at 100%. Most will tell you they swing at 70-80 % and only "turn it up" when they have to. When you watch them on TV hit a 240 yd 3 iron with a swing that looks like its in slow motion, its truely amazing how little effort it takes to hit the ball a long way. Most golfers have a tendency of " overswinging" on every shot and not getting their true distance potential. Head out to the OPTISHOT DRIVING RANGE with a notebook. Take a 7 or 8 iron and start taking 1/4 shots. Hit 5 shots and record swing speed and distance. Then move up to 1/2 swings and record them.  Pay attention to the club path, face angle and sweet spot as you swing with more effort.  Is the ball path the same as you swing faster?. Take it up to 75% and record your swings. What will likely amaze you is that most players will hit the ball as far at 75% as they will at 100%!! By swinging at 70-80%, you will be more consistent with less effort. Save the 100% swing for the long drive contest on 18!!

3) CLUB DISTANCING

Have you seen the little notebook all the Pro's caddies carry? Each one have the exact yardage the Pros hit each club. Do you know the true distance you hit each club? Head out to the OPTISHOT DRIVING RANGE with your notebook. Start with your SW and record 10 shots ( remember to only swing at 70-80%), do this for every club in your bag. Once you establish distance ranges ( usually 10-15 yards a club ), record it on a index card and keep it in your golf bag. This also works great on new clubs or new shafts that can effect the distance. To take it one step further, also look at club face angle and club head path. Do these change as you hit your longer clubs. For example,  if you consistantly leaving the face open or coming outside in, then you can address these issues with your Pro.

4) HAVING FUN PRACTICING

The coolest feature about the Optishot is the ability to skip the boring driving range and head out to any of their 20 courses and hit balls from anywhere you want!! Lets say you want to hit the same shot Phil did at last years Open Championship  on the 16th fairway at St Andrews? GUESS WHAT you can. Or hit a tee shot on the famous 18th at PEBBLE BEACH. Or that sand shot Dustin hit at Whistling Staits a few years ago ( good luck finding that bunker). With OPTISHOT, you can practice anywhere on any course! Way too cool!!
