As you all know, shipping costs have skyrocketed due to high fuel costs and tariffs.
At Spectrum Golf, we realize that shipping costs can dramatically increase your cost of goods sold . We have initiated a few steps to help lower your overall cost even more!

- PALLET SIZES. Shipping a 10 ft roll of golf material results in a OVERSIZED SURCHARGE added to every shipment. This can range from 300-700 dollars per shipment. Unfortunately, there is no way around this. It would be great, if we could just fold the roll in half and make it 5 ft long, but that’s not an option. LOL. Most pallets used to ship the material are 126” long x 44 “wide. Height is going to depend on number of rolls. Most come in at around 40-45” tall. One solution we have come up with is to make the pallets narrower based on the # of rolls shipped. This will reduce the overall size of the shipment resultingin a lower cost. For example, lets say you order 3 rolls,. If we just load them on a standard 126 x 44 pallet, there is a lot of unused space on the pallet that you end up paying for, But if we can fit those same three rolls on a 28” wide skid, then the dimensions decrease and you pay less.
1st KEY TAKEWAY. Loading the maximum # of rolls on the skid is going to dramatically lower you per roll shipping cost . Putting 9 rolls on a skid is much less per roll than putting 3 rolls on the same size skid.
2ND KEY TAKEAWAY. We are working on coming up with a formula that would tell us the optimum # of rolls per skid based on size of skid. For example, lets say you order 3 rolls, We want to be able to tell you that if you order 5 rolls and max out the # of rolls on that size skid, you shipping cost only goes up by this much.
- QUOTES FROM MULTIPLE SHIPPERS. We use a software program that allows us to compare rates from multiple carriers in real time . Most vendors are locked into 1 or 2 shippers and whatever their rate is, that’s what you pay. If you are in the same region as us, a regional carrier may be cheaper than a national carrier. If you are on the west coast , the opposite may be true. We try and get the best rate possible. I f you have an account setup with a preferred carrier, we can use them as well.
- ADDED HANDLING FEES, PALLET CHARGES, AND FRIEGHT MARKUP. Nothing is more frustrating than paying high shipping charges, then get dinged for a pallet charge and additional handling fees. We dealt with a vendor who is notorious for doing this . On a 35k order, they wanted to charge us 500 extra just to load the material on a truck. Same vendor wanted to charge us 150 for each pallet. Suffice it to say, we never dealt with that vendor again. Most vendors are going to mark up the freight cost. They might charge you the listed standard rate and pocket the difference in the discounted rate they get. Companies make a fortunate charging the customer the list rate, then paying the shipper their discounted rate. We don’t mark up the freight, What we are quoted is what you pay. No More.

OTHER WAYS TO REDUCE SHIPPING COSTS. One shipping method we looked into is to ship in PODS or Moving Cubes. We also have looked into using freight lines like ABF where they charge by the linear foot in a trailer. SEE IMAGE. You load the rolls without a skid. They block off your shipment with partition and charge by the linear foot. They bring the POD or trailer to your location. You take a day to unload it.
